Though the storm may roar without me...
The recent news about floods in Europe, and the violent devastating storms in New Orleans and the neighbourhood areas, has given us an opportunity to really focus on God’s creation, and not the destruction.
Once Mrs Eddy was asked by her student, “Can man control weather? She wisely replied, “Man asks God and God controls the weather.”
So as vigilant and responsible members of this global family, let us in unison know that this total power of God is controlling the weather universally.
Many years back, we proved this total control of His presence, when we were living in Bombay. Our apartment, in which we lived, had some constructional defects.
Due to this, every monsoon season we had to face leakage problems in our apartment, and with lots of prayers we survived this situation year after year.
One night, the problem was a bit overpowering, when the leakage was profuse.
Our bed was surrounded by pots and buckets to catch the drops of water from the ceiling, and we were on a prayerful alert and watch all thro the night, when suddenly I started singing Hymn 148, and the words from the title of this article stood out to me loud and clear.
As I continued to rejoice with this angel message, the leakage stopped instantly, with no drops dripping all around us, though it was raining heavily outside. Our bed remained totally dry. We slept soundly the rest of the night, undisturbed by the drips and drops of the water collecting in the buckets which were surrounding our bed, trusting His total control. This little example of God’s care has been of great comfort, and proof of His tender ever-presence. We were grateful to be in the ark of safeness, pitched within and without.
In the Bible we read the story of Noah, who was obedient to God’s directions, as he listened carefully to every detail, building the ark, before the floods came, thereby preserving God’s creation.
In the chapter on Glossary, in Science and Health Mrs Eddy defines, “ARK. Safety…the understanding of Spirit, destroying the belief in matter…” Let us pray to know that all aid workers, and global organisational heads, are also intelligently, listening to Mind’s direction, as they meet every disaster situation, and helping the rebuilding process with, “wisdom, economy and brotherly love.”[Manual].
As global supporters we are called upon not to stand aghast, but stand porter, and send out our prayers, to the victims of these disaster areas, so they can pick up their pieces with dignity, and continue their lives with courage, trust and peace in their hearts.
Whether we are the victims of natural disasters, or we are caught up in any mental storms of our own, we can trust Mrs Eddy’s words from Miscellany page 210
She reminds us, “…keep your minds so filled with Truth and Love, that sin, disease, and death cannot enter them. …Good thoughts are an impervious armor; clad therewith you are completely shielded from attacks of error of every sort. And not only yourselves are safe, but all whom your thoughts rest upon are thereby benefited.”
