$20 fine for profanity or moral courage
Swear in Middleborough , Mass in a public place and it could cost you $20. Maybe the residents who voted for cleaning up language wanted the verbal litter cleaned out of their parks along with the rest of the trash. Small price to pay. On the other hand, I have no problem confronting strangers whose language is uncensored and crude. Usually one startled look and a raised eyebrow is all it takes for an apology. Once or twice I've gone to phase 2 and hushed the self-absorbed potty mouth. Maybe ordinary folks in Middleborough need moral courage instead of a police person. It takes courage to stand in front of God and a stranger, to risk human reaction and stop a sin. Swearing is a sin and sometimes not a mild one.
