Prayer for Tsunami Survivors

From a reader:
I have a question. How do you explain the presence of God in this terrible event in India. I know that God is with the survivors and the people that perished did not really perish, they are going on. I just don't understand how God created a perfect world and exists everywhere for the protection of His children and now 100,000 of His children are gone.

Dear Reader:
First of all, what is most needed at the moment is prayer for the survivors. Your prayer, my prayer is tangibly felt and helps them feel hope in the midst of disaster, courage when they feel discouraged, strength when they need it most. When you think of this, pray without ceasing that they feel God's power with them, God's safety, wisdom and strength. As a Christian in the middle of an emergency case, you can't afford to indulge in “why” questions. You've got to jump right in with all your confidence, conviction and radical commitment to support the survivors. Take one thought, one spiritual quality that speaks to you and if nothing else use petitionary prayer to ask God that every individual feel that quality. We are holding up their hands like Aaron and Hur held up Moses' hands in the midst of the battle in Ex. 17:12.

You've got to come at this as a practitioner, not as a patient.

Another example of being upheld in God's care

The first healing reminds me of one I had a few weeks ago. I was expecting a friend for dinner and, as it gets dark early now [in CA], and our area has no street lights, and it had been some time since this friend had been there, I decided to walk out front where the motion-sensored lights would "see" me and come on. Before I quite got within the area of the lights, my BLACK dog ran very fast past me [I don't think either of us could see the other], completely knocking my feet out from under me. Immediately, "God is all-in-all" came out of my mouth and I held onto that as I quickly reached out to put my hand on something to keep me from falling. There was nothing within reach and I fell down hard, onto the concrete driveway. I was able to gather my thoughts, continuing to pray, and I got up, moving to turn the lights on, then both the dog [who looked as surprised as I!] went back into the house. I must admit I was a little shaken up and sore, but I continued to hold to the fact that I could not fall out of God's kingdom. I was able to welcome my friend, have dinner and go on as usual. After a day or so, all soreness was gone; no bruising or breakage occurred, for which I am most grateful.

You can't fall out of God's care

I was at home last weekend and in the middle of the night I woke-up feeling very warm and I realized that I did not remember to turn down the heat. I decided to get-up and go downstairs and adjust the thermostat. As I walked down the steps to the first floor, somehow I tripped and fell all the way to the bottom. Inmediately I remembered that God was my shield and support "a very present help in trouble" Ps. 46:1. I was able to stand-up without any problem and I felt perfectly right at that moment and I did not have any bruises or discomfort of any kind in the following days. It is good to know that we are always in His healing presence.

Translating things into spiritual thoughts works!

When we returned from our last vacation, our backpack, which was our only piece of checked luggage, did not arrive with us on our flight home. I couldn't believe that our backpack was lost, but after a week, the airline sent us claims forms. It had been such a perfect vacation and full of such spiritual growth for both of us, that it didn't seem right to accept an inharmonious event at the end. Throughout our vacation, I had been actively "translating" every experience into its spiritual qualities and both my husband and I had spent our "free" time praying or studying Mrs. Eddy's writings. So I continued to think about the backpack and its contents in terms of the spiritual qualities they expressed - an interesting exercise when it's mostly dirty clothes! A couple of weeks later, it seemed time to complete the claims forms. It took me several hours to make a complete list of the contents, and as I did, I continued to "translate" the material objects into their spiritual realities. Shortly after we went to bed that night, the phone rang. Even before my husband answered it, I knew it was the airline. And it was. They were calling to see if they could deliver our backpack the next day. It arrived intact and unopened from a journey across three continents. This sentence from Science and Health explains how I prayed: "Divine Science, rising above physical theories, excludes matter, resolves things into thoughts, and replaces the objects of material sense with spiritual ideas." (p. 123)

Capturing those delightful healings

What a wonderful idea. This is truly a great Christmas present. A friend and I were talking about capturing those delightful healings we all experience but seem to quickly forget, we agreed we needed to take note of them and then share them on Wednesday evening. Also, I have a painting of a girl posting a prayer on the prayer wall in Jerusalem and was thinking about the significance of posting our gratitude in the periodicals or Wednesday evening service or now here on this Blog. Thank you.

God didn't make you sick

I've got to tell you a quick Caroline story. Caroline was sick on Friday, vomiting and sore throat. She asked Kim (her mom) why God made her sick, and Kim told her that God hadn't made her sick because he loves her. She then asked if the devil had made her sick and thought maybe he made her sick because she fights too much with Zach. With this Kim called me (grandma) for help, she wanted me to send Caroline an email that Kim could read to her. I told her that God is Love and that she, Zach (brother), Mommy and Daddy and Nana and Pop and everyone were God's children and loves us all very much and would never make us sick. I also told her that the devil is like a bad dream and when we wake up we realize that it is not real and therefore has no power to make us feel bad. I told her to pray to God and tell Him how much she loves Him and to really know that God loves her. I also told her to have Mommy read "Travis Talks with God" to her becuse it was about a boy who didn't feel good and felt fine after he talked to God. She was fine the next day.
